ADVOCACY AND CAPACITY BUILDING

BKS works with the police, government, judiciary, Civil Society and vulnerable communities to help them to recognize their rights, taboos existing in our society like human trafficking and child labour. BKS also runs awareness raising programmes in communities on the importance of education and health care for mothers and young children. It has organized different state level sensitization workshops on child labour elimination and anti - human trafficking, adoption and non-institutional care and HIV-AIDS, migration and migrant children. BKS has also done capacity building of Community Groups, continuous counseling of parents and with its efforts it has been able to join the families of vulnerable children with govt. schemes (income generation programmes like MNREGA Programmes, SGSY Programmes and making BPL Cards for them and other schemes etc. (more…)

MAJBOOR KISKO BOLA

Majboor Kisko Bola?” (Who Are You Calling Helpless?) is a radio-based community programme focused on labour welfare, human rights, and social equity, initiated in collaboration with BBC Media Action. The programme is implemented across 15 villages in the Murhu Block of Khunti District.

In each village, a Listener Group was formed to collectively engage with the programme. New radio episodes were broadcast every week, and following each episode, Listener Group members came together to discuss the themes, messages, and real-life relevance of the content. These discussions encouraged critical reflection, community dialogue, and collective understanding of labour rights and social justice issues.

The programme created a participatory platform that enabled community members to voice concerns, share experiences, and strengthen awareness on issues related to labour welfare and human rights at the grassroots level.

Response of the Villagers about the Radio Programme-

The villagers like the radio programme, and used to listen the episodes with great interest.
Through the Radio Programme the villagers came to know about many issues like that of Bonded labour, Migration, their basic rights etc.
They became more vocal for want of their rights. Now if they see any case of a Missing child, they come to the Police Station to report.
If anyone goes out for work they make it a point to leave the address of the destination place, along with some contact number of that place, and inform it to the other family members or neighbours.
