Aaghaaz

Supported By: VSO India Introduction: “Aaghaaz” project has been launched in five cities of India as Patna, Lucknow, Bhubaneswar, Raipur and Ranchi with the support of VSO India Trust and Bharti Infratel Limited. In Ranchi Bal Kalyan Sangh (BKS) is Implementing partner of this project. Purpose/Objective: “Aaghaaz” project’s objective is to improve the livelihoods of 200 poor marginalized urban women through interpersonal, technical skill training and job placement. Its sub-objectives are:
  • Build confidence, leadership, interpersonal and other soft skills of 200 women through high-quality training sessions that are context-specific and gender-sensitive.
  • Build the capacity of 200 women on context-specific, market-driven technical skills through high-quality training.
  • Support and monitor the placements of 200 trained women in relevant employment, which is safe, secure and dignified (formal, a decent wage, good working conditions

ADVOCACY AND CAPACITY BUILDING

BKS works with the police, government, judiciary, Civil Society and vulnerable communities to help them to recognize their rights, taboos existing in our society like human trafficking and child labour. BKS also runs awareness raising programmes in communities on the importance of education and health care for mothers and young children. It has organized different state level sensitization workshops on child labour elimination and anti - human trafficking, adoption and non-institutional care and HIV-AIDS, migration and migrant children. BKS has also done capacity building of Community Groups, continuous counseling of parents and with its efforts it has been able to join the families of vulnerable children with govt. schemes (income generation programmes like MNREGA Programmes, SGSY Programmes and making BPL Cards  for them and other schemes etc. (more…)

AGRICULTURE

The economy by one large relies on agriculture. India has the highest percentage of area under cultivation but the yield of crops through better seeds, irrigation and use of advanced technologies and research is experienced in the last few decades. Bal Kalyan Sangh was formed with a vision to enrich the agriculture sector with all kind of new technologies and research. Working on the agricultural development, particularly in different districts of Jharkhand, it was experienced that farmers in Jharkhand were not in a position to experiment. Suffering with basic requirement, specifically of irrigation water and electricity, agricultural sector in Jharkhand still looking for a leap and ensure food grains at last for a year for each farm family. HEALTH AND SANITATION

BKS has successfully concluded a 10 year programme with Care India aimed at improving the health and nutrition of pregnant women, mothers and young children from poor communities. Health and hygiene has also been one of the focus areas of the organisation. Major interventions on this front have been in collaboration with the government initiatives

  • Supportive supervision
  • Promote total sanitation campaign
  • Support Anganwari centres in immunisation programmes
  • Maternal and child nutrition
  • Awareness generation with capacity building with respect to HIV / Aids

LIVELIHOOD

To combat human trafficking in Jharkhand Bal Kalyan Sangh, Ranchi came up with an idea of providing livelihood options to these rescued and vulnerable communities. The livelihood options include raising a force of women security guard from Jharkhand, housekeeping and Tailoring Training and it has also ventured into Motor driving, Nursing, Computer Applications, and Beautician training- with support of Central Reserve Police Force, GOI. The idea behind is to rehabilitate the girls who were the victim of trafficking or vulnerable to trafficking, or are poor so that employment opportunities for the girls can be created. (more…)

EMPOWERING MARGINALIZED GIRLS THROUGH QUALITY EDUCATION

Overall Objective To increase access and quality of education for disadvantaged and excluded children in project areas, with a special focus on girls Activities
  • Strengthening of SMC’s
  • Community mobilization and Orientation of PRI members on RtE.
  • Conducting parents teachers meetings
  • Capacity building of Teachers on using TLM.
  • Monthly weekend camps for vocational training for KGBV students
  • Strengthening of libraries and reading corners
  • Strengthening of Girls Group formations and Bal sansads
  • Support to KGBV students in science and maths in Jharkhand School and specific newsletter by students
  • Creating child friendly environment in both KGBV Primary and Upper-Primary Schools.
Expected Outcomes:
  • Increase in Retention of Children at School.
  • Ensuring quality education inconformity with RtE through community monitoring.

SHELTER HOME

Bal Kalyan Sangh, also the state coordinator of ATSEC Jharkhand chapter has taken initiative and has established a shelter home, “Kishori Niketan” at Bijupara for the trafficked survivors in the year 2003. The home was built upon the commitment to reduce the vulnerability of women and children and provide care and support to the survivors of trafficking and further restore their life with dignity and future prospects. Kishori Niketan provides an environment of comfort and delivers parental care to the survivors, who during their exploitation have lost their childhood and self confidence. (more…)
