Jharkhand’s First Child Welfare and Protection Committee Formed and Trained in East Singhbhum under Mission Vatsalya

In a pioneering move for child rights and protection, Jharkhand’s first-ever Child Welfare and Protection Committee (CW&PC) has been formally constituted and trained in Boram Block, East Singhbhum, under the central government’s Mission Vatsalya scheme.

This initiative marks a significant milestone in strengthening the child protection ecosystem at the grassroots level and sets a model for other districts in the state to follow.

A one-day training program was organized by the District Administration, with support from Bal Kalyan Sangh and Miracle Foundation India, to equip committee members with essential knowledge and tools. Key topics included the Juvenile Justice Act 2015, POCSO Act, UNCRC, and the roles and responsibilities of the CW&PC, including mandatory monthly meetings and community-level interventions.

“Protecting Children is a Collective Duty”

Addressing the participants, BDO Mr. Kiku Mahto emphasized that child protection is not just a government responsibility but a shared societal duty. He called for active involvement from Panchayat representatives, Anganwadi workers, teachers, parents, and citizens to build child-friendly Panchayats.

If children receive the right direction and support early on, they can become valuable citizens. But if neglected, issues like child marriage, labor, and abuse will persist,” he said.
