Hockey as a Weapon Against Trafficking: Khunti Girls Shine with New Hopes

In an inspiring initiative to empower adolescent girls and strengthen community resilience against human trafficking, Bal Kalyan Sangh (BKS) organised a special programme at Murhu Panchayat Bhawan.

As part of the event, 60 girls from Murhu Block received essential hockey kits, marking the start of their structured sports training. The programme also included a cleanliness drive, initiated by Shri Alok Dubey, IAS, Deputy Development Commissioner (DDC) Khunti, reinforcing the importance of civic responsibility alongside sports and education.

Empowering Girls Through Sports

Shri Alok Dubey highlighted Khunti’s rich legacy in hockey:

“By providing hockey kits to these 60 girls, we are giving wings to their dreams. Sports build strength, confidence, and team spirit. Challenges should become your strength, not obstacles. The district administration is committed to supporting you to make Jharkhand and India proud. The efforts of Bal Kalyan Sangh in training girls through Bal Manch are commendable.”

Murhu Deputy Pramukh, Mr. Arun Sabu, also lauded Khunti’s sporting heritage, noting that the district has consistently produced players who excel at national and international levels. He appreciated BKS for motivating children and shaping their future.

Mr. Sanjay Mishra, Director of BKS, emphasized the organisation’s holistic approach:

“Our aim goes beyond distributing sports kits. Through platforms like Bal Manch and Village Child Protection Committees, we are empowering children to identify and resist challenges such as child labour, child marriage, and trafficking. We hope the daughters of Khunti become role models, inspiring change through courage and dedication.”

BKS’s initiatives already impact children across 14 villages, creating a strong network of confident, aware, and resilient youth.
